Self-Directed Care ensures that people who can and want to be in charge of their own healthcare, but are physically challenged to do so, can still receive care in their own homes.
Self-Directed Care includes medical, nursing, or home health services and is intended to help maintain independence, personal hygiene, and safety. Specifically, these are services that someone without a functional disability would normally and personally perform without the assistance of a licensed health care provider.
If you choose to self-direct a health care task you must inform the health care professional who ordered your treatment of the task(s) you intend to self-direct.
